woman running through field to smell the roses

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” You may recognize that quote from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, one of the seminal films of my youth. That’s what this week is about. Stopping to smell the roses & nurturing the parts of you that breed joy.

Many of us had a really intense summer with a lot of harsh energies coming at us. We may have a situation that continues to weigh heavy on our mind: be it professional, personal or romantic. Constant worry & mental energy towards our problems doesn’t help us solve them, it just plants us further in the quicksand. Harmony, justice, and equanimity come through balance. That means that if you’re only in the worry, your ability to judge what’s in front of you is off-center.

So what I’d like to invite you to do this week is to allow yourself time & attention to enjoy the things that bring you pleasure. Not only libidinous pleasure; soul based pleasure. Do you like to take pictures? Go to a neighborhood you haven’t been to & bring your camera. Rediscover it. Do you like to cook? Find yourself a new recipe & prepare it for you. Or if you love being social prepare it for friends. Do you love to laugh? Take a day & binge watch comedy specials.

Do something, no matter how “small” that gives you that feeling that the world is an ok place. Actively choose to disengage – for a moment – from the things that keep you in the unhappiness. Something we forget frequently is that happiness is a choice. It doesn’t have to be a giant choice, it is also made up of the little things that we choose to give ourself. This is a great week to take yourself on a really good date. Clear your mind, clear your heart. This too is life. 🌹
